Website User Experience Intern

Summary

The International Spy Museum is a private nonprofit museum dedicated to educating the public about the world of espionage and intelligence through exhibits, educational programs, special events, and public outreach. Our Marketing & Communications department seeks a website user experience intern to help with web architecture and the overall user experience for the education and program portion of the website. 

The Marketing & Communications Intern will conduct a heuristic evaluation of the education and programs portion of spymuseum.org. This contracted position works closely with The Programs team to identify improvements to the organization of content on the website. 

Responsibilities

Subject to Adjustment by Mutual Agreement
Working closely with the Museum’s Senior Graphic Designer, this work will focus on the following projects and deliverables:

Evaluate

  • Evaluate the current education and programs section of the website for clarity and understand how users navigate this important part of the website.

Identify

  • Identify usability issues including navigational challenges, consistency & standards concerns, and writing & content quality problems on the current website.

Plan

  • Collaborate with the Programs and Marketing & Communications Design teams on developing and presenting a plan to address issues identified. 

Education Requirement

  • This internship is open to anyone currently pursuing their post-secondary pathway, including undergraduates, graduate students, and persons seeking a professional certificate or an associate degree.

  • Education or museum backgrounds a plus.

  • An effective communicator who enjoys working in a team environment but can also easily tackle independent projects.

Hours and Compensation

Spring Internship

  • 10-12-weeks. Hours flexible based on student class schedule and department needs. 

*Most interns will complete 200-240 hours over the duration of the internship.

  • This is a paid internship with a DC hourly minimum wage. The internship does not entitle, nor guarantee, the intern employment at the conclusion of the internship.  
  • The International Spy Museum offers academic credit for this internship. The Museum will work with the intern to complete all necessary forms to receive credit, but the intern is responsible for making all appropriate arrangements with their school.
