Graphic Design Intern
2024 Fall Internship
The International Spy Museum (SPY) is a private nonprofit museum dedicated to educating the public about the world of espionage and intelligence through exhibits, educational programs, special events, and public outreach. Our Marketing & Communications department seeks a Graphic Design Intern to join our Creative team.
The Graphic Design Intern will foremost learn about the ins-and-outs of communications design strategy, and how to develop visuals for a nonprofit museum for unique audiences and purposes while upholding brand integrity.
This contracted position will collaborate with the Marketing & Communications department and work under the Creative team to assist in daily brand management including website graphic and content updates, weekly email marketing layout through Salesforce Account Engagement, monthly Museum event and program social media marketing graphics, and other creative design projects and tasks as identified.
Responsibilities
Subject to Adjustment by Mutual Agreement
Working closely with the Creative team, this work will focus on the following projects and deliverables:
Website – spymuseum.org
- Completes content, layout and graphic updates through the Museum’s website Content Management System (CMS) for various existing and new pages across the website.
- Helps the Creative team select relevant brand-first imagery for the website through the Museum’s online photography digital asset management system (NETX).
Email Marketing
- Assists in creation and deployment of the Museum’s email newsletter through Salesforce Account Engagement including layout and photo selection, front-end html adjustment, and email list management.
- Assists in creation and deployment of marketing promotional emails through Salesforce Account Engagement including layout and photo selection, front-end html adjustment, and email list management.
Social Media
- Assists in creation of still graphics promoting SPY monthly programs and events for use on all SPY social channels.
- Assists the Social Media Specialist in creative tasks as assigned.
Education Requirement
- This internship is open to anyone currently pursuing their post-secondary pathway, including undergraduates, graduate students, and persons seeking a professional certificate or an associate degree.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite platforms – InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop

Hours and Compensation
2024 Fall Internship
This is a 10-12-week program taking place between September and December. Hours flexible based on student class schedule and department needs.
- This intern will complete up to 240 hours over the duration of the internship.
- This is a paid internship with a DC hourly minimum wage. The internship does not entitle, nor guarantee, the intern employment at the conclusion of the internship.
- This is an in-person internship position located at 700 L’Enfant Plaza, SW Washington DC 20024.
- The International Spy Museum offers academic credit for this internship. The Museum will work with the intern to complete all necessary forms to receive credit, but the intern is responsible for making all appropriate arrangements with their school.
