Guest Services Volunteer

Guest Services Volunteers support the Museum by welcoming visitors, providing orientation, and offering general information throughout the Museum’s lobby and galleries. As part of the Guest Services Department, volunteers help ensure a positive visitor experience by greeting guests, encouraging exploration of exhibitions, offering wayfinding assistance, and answering questions related to transportation, dining options, and nearby Washington, DC attractions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist visitors as they plan and organize their visit.
  • Provide wayfinding support in the lobby and galleries.
  • Explain and demonstrate RFID technology to guests participating in the Undercover Mission experience.
  • Engage visitors in conversation using exhibition content to encourage curiosity and deeper exploration.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Completion of a Spy Museum background check.
  • Complete volunteer orientation on Friday, June 5 or Sunday, June 8 from 1 PM – 5 PM.
  • Commitment to a minimum of 8 volunteer hours per month (four two hour shifts) for at least one year.

  • An engaging and outgoing demeanor.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work independently in changing environments.
  • Clear, confident communication with a diverse public.
  • Ability to represent the Museum in a professional and positive manner.
  • Comfort working in crowded or noisy spaces.
  • Ability and willingness to stand for extended periods.

Please submit your application no later than Wednesday, May 27, 2026. 

Space is limited, and early applications are encouraged. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis as applications are received. 

Applicants must be available to attend Volunteer Orientation on Friday, June 5 or Sunday, June 7 from 1 PM – 5 PM.
