This week on SpyCast, SPY Historian Andrew Hammond was joined by Richard Aldrich and Rory Cormac, authors of the new book Crown, Cloak, and Dagger: The British Monarchy and Secret Intelligence from Victoria to Elizabeth II. In this episode, the trio discussed the many different approaches and ways that British royals utilized intelligence during their reigns. With a special focus on Great Britain’s longest-serving monarchs Victoria and Elizabeth II, this episode of SpyCast will show you a secret side of the crown you’ve never seen before.

Richard Aldrich is a Professor of International Security at the University of Warwick. His research has focused primarily within intelligence and security communities, including studies on the “nature of secrecy” in an increasingly digital world. Rory Cormac is a Professor of International Relations at the University of Nottingham, focusing on the study of Covert Action and Secret Statecraft. In addition to their collaboration on Crown, Cloak, and Dagger, Aldrich and Cormac have worked together on three Channel 4 documentaries: Spying on the Royals (2017), D-Day: The King who Fooled Hitler (2019) and The Queen and the Coup (2020).
