In the early morning of August 6, 1945, the Japanese city of Hiroshima ceased to exist. It didn’t take thousands of bombs from hundreds of aircraft. It took one bomb. One plane. In a split second – and with the splitting of the atom – the world changed forever.

Intelligence agencies everywhere took notice. A nation could not afford to be surprised by a nuclear attack. It could mean the destruction of their countries, the extermination of tens of millions of their citizens. Unfortunately, this is still a reality we live with today.

Join International Spy Museum Historian Dr. Vince Houghton, author of Nuking the Moon and The Nuclear Spies, in conversation with Jim Walther, the Director of the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History, for a special members-only event. The two will discuss the extraordinary impact of nuclear weapons on American and global security, and how worldwide intelligence professionals were forced to adapt to a new – and terribly frightening – reality: if they made a mistake, or missed a warning sign, it could mean the death of billions.

Following their discussion of key issues, you’ll be able to ask questions via our online platform.

Co-sponsored by the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History in Albuquerque, NM.
