It’s been 30 years since the Cold War ended in December of 1991, but the geopolitical actions and reactions played out between the East and West are still resonating today. The International Spy Museum (SPY) and the Pritzker Military Museum & Library (PMML) are joining forces to explore this extraordinary period of incredible significance and impact.

Join James Brundage, Museum Curator of the PMML, SPY Executive Director Chris Costa, and SPY Historian and Curator Andrew Hammond, for a 360-degree look at the Cold War. The speakers will discuss the importance of this tense time and why studying it remains of critical importance for anyone seeking to understand global issues. Cold War highlights of the PMML exhibition Drawn to Combat: Bill Mauldin & the Art of War will be shared, as well as some of SPY’s most iconic gadgets from the war of the spies. Rounding out the scholarly program, will be an insider’s look at East German spy Rainier Rupp.  As an Army military intelligence officer, Costa was deeply involved with the case of the mole inside NATO, and he will describe the tradecraft, the damage done, and the aftermath of catching the damaging spy in 1993. This will be a unique conversation ranging from the Cold War as concept to what it was like on the front lines of the conflict.

Following the discussion, you’ll be able to ask questions via our online platform.
