Increasing technical surveillance has inspired some artists to create work that critiques and confronts the challenges to personal privacy in the contemporary world.

Berlin-based artist Martin Backes’ “Pixelhead” mask— made of elasticated fabric printed with pixels and slits for the eyes and mouth—confuses facial recognition cameras.
