James Lafayette was a spy for the Patriots in Virginia during the fight for American Independence. Working closely with the Marquis de Lafayette, this enslaved man undertook “important commissions” and gathered “intelligences from the enemy’s camp.” Join the Free Library of Philadelphia and International Spy Museum Director of Adult Education Amanda Ohlke to explore how we know about James and his work as a spy for the Patriots—from documentation to speculation.

This is a hybrid event - you can either attend in person at the Peters Township Library in McMurray, PA, or watch via Zoom.
