Belonging at SPY

Dear Friends,

“United we Spy.” It’s been our International Spy Museum (SPY) team motto for nearly eight years, since we started a staff-wide conversation about the values that inspire and guide us. The SPY team identified five core values that we continue to live and breathe every day: Diversity, Creativity, Team, Service Excellence, and Fun.

We strive to create a better and safer world for those who work at the Spy Museum and those we serve. We believe our strength lies in our differences rather than our similarities. We nurture and embrace differing perspectives to make better decisions. We believe that together we can do anything.

To cultivate this culture of belonging for everyone, and to lead the ongoing work that doing so requires, SPY created a Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Inclusion Council. This SPY team’s mission is to promote a diverse, open, and inclusive environment for all members of our staff and our community. We believe diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion are integral to who we are, and we value the unique contributions, ideas, backgrounds, and cultures that make our SPY team strong.

As a museum, we are storytellers at heart. We have a responsibility to tell diverse stories, to tell challenging ones, and to be inclusive of diverse audiences. In doing so, we want to create a better understanding of today’s complex world for the millions of lives we touch each year. The more inclusive we are, the better our work, and our world, will be.

Access to SPY

The Spy Museum is dedicated to creating experiences accessible to everyone including those with disabilities. This includes everything from offering Museum hours with fewer crowds and less noise to better welcome those with sensory sensitivities to custom-designed programs for individuals with memory loss to a touch collection providing tactile experiences for visitors with low vision. For those who are unable to visit the physical Museum, SPY offers numerous free, public virtual programs that bring to life many of the stories told in the Museum galleries.
