Two of the Metropolitan region’s most popular attractions have teamed up once again to offer local Washingtonians, as well as visitors to our nation’s capital, a way to save while saluting America’s first president and founding father of espionage: George Washington. From August 1 through September 30, guests who visit George Washington’s Mount Vernon and the International Spy Museum will be able to take advantage of Operation: George Washington and save 50 percent off the ticket purchase at their second destination.

Last night, NBC News aired Brian Williams' interview with Edward Snowden. Recorded last week from a hotel in Moscow, the interview provided some interesting fodder for national debate. They spoke on topics ranging from Snowden’s motivations, to the impact of his disclosures, to his relationship with the Russian government. Here are a few of my takeaways from the broadcast.

The International Spy Museum announced yesterday evening the extension of their limited engagement mini-exhibit “The Americans: Fact and Fantasy,” during an exclusive screening of the critically-acclaimed FX drama The Americans.
Museum leadership was joined by two of the show’s executive producers, Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields, along with network executives and invited guests, to review the latest episode and recognize the partnership that led to the mini-exhibit, housed in the lobby of the Museum.

Today, the International Spy Museum unveiled its newest temporary display highlighting the intelligence services of the USSR during the Cold War, in partnership with FX and its hit period drama The Americans. “The Americans: Fact and Fantasy,” on view for the in the Museum's lobby for a limited two-month engagement, provides a paralleled perspective from a tenuous time in the history of intelligence.

On Sunday, March 16, the International Spy Museum will join the dozens of creative minds at Nova Labs' inaugural NoVa Mini Maker Faire, at the campuses of South Lakes High School and Hughes Middle School. Inventors, hackers, crafters, artists, and DIY’ers from across the region will collaborate with Faire-goers to make new inventions, tools, and gadgets. Join Museum staff as they demonstrate a series of DIY spy gadgets they have created and provide top secret instructions on how to make them at home. WASHINGTON—In annual recognition of America’s first Spymaster, the International Spy Museum has re-installed one of the institution’s most revered and guarded artifacts: an original letter written by George Washington initiating a fledgling nation’s first spy network. The letter, which is privately stored offsite ten months out of the year to preserve its fragile state, is now once again on public display just in time for President’s Day Weekend.
