The BND, The German Federal Intelligence Agency: 60 Years

This new mini-exhibit commemorates the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND) in 1956. The exhibit traces the agency’s history from its surprising American roots in the 1940s and features rarely seen artifacts loaned by the BND including vintage spy gadgets, concealment devices, historic photos, and documents.

Highlights include Wehrmacht Enigma and C38/M209 cipher machines used for covert communication and concealment devices from stealth operations such as a lady’s handbag and tourist binoculars used to hide cameras.
