Summary

The International Spy Museum (SPY) is looking for a first-rate recruit to help manage the Museum’s safety and security programs and establish and maintain appropriate policies and procedures. The person selected for this position will have the keen ability to provide leadership, guidance, and training to Museum Security staff while balancing the gentle art of spying on guests and having fun. Five Areas of Accountability

  • Department administration assist – scheduling, training, evaluation
  • Building access management – tracking and maintenance of keys, locks, access cards
  • Department policy and procedures – implementation and revision
  • Museum security and safety administration assist – oversee security training, testing and emergency preparedness
  • Department labor and wage budget assist – forecast staffing needs and implement cost saving initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and serve guests to the International Spy Museum while applying the Museum’s standard of policy and guest service to create a rewarding guest experience. Inform guests of Museum safety/security policies
  • Coordinate daily activities of the department including, but not limited to, scheduling employee rotations for optimal coverage, be involved in training, counseling, and disciplining employees
  • Support Security Management in safety aspects of the Museum including evacuations and fire drills; ensuring a safe environment; addressing threats to the Museum, its staff, or visitors; alarm systems; CCTV; medical emergencies; and issues involving g hostile visitors, disturbances, or theft
  • Ability to act as Security Manager on Duty, as needed
  • Assist management in training and assisting new staff in the Museum’s safety/security standards, operating procedures, and methods of resolving concerns and complaints. Monitor staff performance and provide timely and specific feedback. Act as a Museum Security Officer, as needed
  • Assist in all areas of Security and assist in various Museum departments with special events. Serve as a resource to new staff members
  • Maintain current certification in First Aid and CPR and respond to medical emergencies
  • Act as a deterrent to criminal activity on the Museum property. Report evidence of criminal activity to the proper authorities. Prevent theft, vandalism, and other crimes against persons and property, and pursue and detain persons suspected of such activities
  • Observe and report all security and safety hazards and provide written documentation

Minimum Education Required

  • Associates degree required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Minimum Experience Required

  • Five years security experience; Three years security supervisory experience
  • Two years customer service experience
  • Experience in a cultural setting preferred

Skills Preferred

  • Valid Metropolitan Police Department Special Police Officer (SPO) license preferred
  • Certification in First Aid, AED, BBP and CPR
  • Lenel Certified Associate (LCA) preferred
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Evidence of ability to lead and direct staff effectively
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Evidence of strong planning and organization skills in current role
  • Ability to operate CCTV and alarm systems
  • Ability to represent the Museum in a positive and professional manner
  • Ability to make timely and appropriate decisions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to complete daily, weekly, or monthly reports
  • Ability to effectively cover all posts using available manpower including yourself
  • Ability to schedule employees daily to ensure proper coverage
  • Weekend and night work is required, with varying days off
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
