Sales Account Executive – Tour and Travel


The Sales Account Executive is an integral member of the International Spy Museum Sales team and works towards meeting and/or exceeding revenue expectations while providing a educational and memorable Museum experience which results in long-term client relationships. Candidate works well with a team and is open to new, creative ideas while fulfilling the Museum core values.  

Five Areas of Accountability

  • Prospects for new business/establishes new relationships while maintaining existing partnerships.
  • Develops new streams of revenue with the tour and travel market.
  • Manages full sales cycle for market, from initial booking to payment processing to post-visit communication.
  • Consistently reports/forecasts activity/revenue and expense projections.
  • Achieves assigned revenue targets from the tour and travel market.

  • Manages the Tour and Travel market. Tour and Travel market covers individual and group ticket sales.  Companies/organizations includes tour operators, Online Travel Agencies (OTAs), Destination Management Organizations (DMOs), Convention Visitor Bureaus (CVBs), travel planners, Concierge/Hotels, and travel organizations.
  • Maintain and expand market segment through marketing efforts, networking, and other promotional offerings. Respond to changes in the market and visitor experience/Museum needs, working in conjunction with the Sales Director/VP of Operations.
  • Represent the Museum at trade conventions, tradeshows, local and national trade meetings, and through strategic partnership and networking outlets. Conduct sales calls/visits and familiarization tours of the Museum.
  • Manage accounts through a point-of-sale system (Siriusware) and CRM (Salesforce). Utilize systems to maintain records and run reports.
  • Contract services/sales with all direct and third-party clients for market assigned.
  • Manages the accounting for the financial elements of all client accounts. Ensures that all deposits, checks, EFT’s, and credit card payments are processed in a timely manner.
  • Develop and market new promotional offerings that support individual and the team’s goals. Offerings are strategic, complement the Spy Museum mission, maximize revenue potential with reasonable costs, and utilize mostly existing resources.
  • Create annual expense budget for market and record and submit all expense reports related while monitoring and managing budget.
  • Assist in creation of revenue projections and forecasting based upon industry knowledge and trends.
  • Collaborate with other departments on a regular basis, communicating needs and partner opportunities, supporting colleague department goals, and utilizing colleague resources to support the sales team. 
  • Stay up to date on all technical, managerial, and industry-related developments through networking and industry events.  This knowledge is shared with the team and the Spy Museum through leadership summaries, internal trainings, and communication.
  • Respond to changes in the market and visitor experience/Museum needs, working in conjunction with the Sales Director/VP of Operations.
  • Support team operations as needed.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree is preferred
  • Three or more years’ experience within a sales position, preferably in the hospitality industry or in a cultural arts organization (such as a museum, performing arts venue, etc.)
  • Experience/knowledge of CRM and POS systems.

  • Proven sales track record that demonstrates candidate exceeds expectations.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience, ability to provide clear examples of out-of-box solutions to problems and extraordinary guest experiences facilitated by candidate.
  • Excellent verbal communication style and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work within a team environment; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population and Museum needs.
  • Demonstrated time management skills, including multi-tasking.  Ability to meet deadlines with thoughtful and clear documentation.
  • Works both independently and with general supervision.
  • Ability to review past data, provide a summary analysis and recommendation that not only drives sales, but provides smart business for the Museum.
