As the Store Manager, you are responsible for recruiting, hiring, coaching and developing your own team to create a store atmosphere that is fun and uniquely special for our customers and associates. It is important for the Retail Manager to be an independent self-starter, project a positive demeanor and can-do philosophy. You must possess strong organizational skills with the ability to successfully juggle many responsibilities at once. You are expected to spend 80% of your time on the sales floor with customers and staff, leading, selling, coaching, observing, managing inventory flow and driving the business. A bachelor’s degree is preferred and 4 years of high-volume ($4-5M+) Retail Store Manager experience are required for this position. 

Core Accountabilities:

Revenue Generation

  • Coach and develop staff to exceed goals by enthusiastically modeling selling behavior, sharing product knowledge, and connecting the Guest’s museum experience to our unique and interesting products. 
  • Achieve store sales goals and performance metrics through implementation of revenue building strategies and initiatives, ensuring staff is thoroughly trained, developing product knowledge tools, and execution of our five core service principles: acknowledge/engage the customer, suggest items and options, complete the transaction with accuracy and efficiency, offer a personal thank you, and remind customers to shop with us on-line. 
  • Drive sales by identifying and acting upon opportunities including in-museum/store and off-site events. Collaborate with the Retail Team to devise and execute enticing sales promotions, create appealing visual merchandising stories, conceive, implement, and monitor monthly contests that motivate your team to exceed goals and earn rewards.
  • Achieve all financial objectives with regard to expense control; labor cost, supply expenses, KPI performance, and inventory control. 
  • Prepare for and participate in weekly Retail meetings and other department meetings. Collaborate and contribute. Share your ideas, suggestions, and solutions. 

Exceed Customer Expectations:

  • Coach and develop staff to provide a world class shopping experience.

Operational Excellence:

  • Monitor and maintain compliance of all company policies and procedures to make sound business decisions and communicate/educate all staff members to do the same.

Product and Visual Merchandising:

  • Partner with Buying Team on implementation of visual merchandising/displays and maintains standards consistent with company brand strategies.
  • Communicate with Buying Team regarding product mix, trends and needs.

Management of Human Resources/Creating Team Success:

  • Create and maintain positive employee relations through building, developing and leading a cohesive steam.
  • Ensure on-going specific and immediate coaching and feedback are provided to staff. Deliver performance documentation in a timely manner; manage conflict resolution.
  • Prepare and delivers performance reviews and create staff development plans to ensure top talent and strong succession planning.
  • Ensure store is always properly staffed. Recruit, hire, ton-board and train store team. Develop ongoing talent pool for growth opportunities and business needs.
  • Maintain a calm demeanor and manage employee and customer issues professionally and according to store and company standards, setting a positive example.
  • Prepare monthly reports detailing store business and activities.

Desired Skills and Experience:


  • BA in Business Administration or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years high volume (4-5M+) experience in the role of Retail Store Manager. 
  • Retail Management knowledge and experience including: sales, business acumen, financial management customer service, merchandising, scheduling, and inventory control and loss prevention. 
  • Team Building Experience: Knowledge in recruiting, staffing, coaching, counseling, training and development. 
  • Cash Handling experience to include accurate daily fund management, deposits and change orders.
  • Solid Computer skills: POS Systems and Microsoft Office. 
  • Strong written and verbal skills, excellent time management and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects simultaneously, while being flexible to conditions and remaining focused and organized. 
  • Open to feedback, with the capacity to translate feedback into actionable steps that deliver results. 
  • Skill to build collaborative relationships by fostering open dialogue and listening effectively. 
  • Competency to maintain a fair and equitable workplace and encourage an environment where members of the store team can express their concerns and ideas. 
  • Resourcefully solve problems and accurately assess situations, use feedback to customize solutions, and communicate plans and next steps to the store team and business partners. 
  • Initiative to act as an analytical and creative business owner, using knowledge of retail and competition to identify opportunities and deliver sales results. 

Additional Requirements

You must have a flexible schedule to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays based on business needs.

You are expected to work a majority of your time on the sales floor, with customers and staff, managing inventory flow, visual merchandising/displays, providing coaching in the moment and setting the example.

The position requires significant physical activity including extended periods of standing and walking, bending, the ability to climb up and down a ladder and the ability to handle, lift and move stock weighing up to 50 lbs.
