Development & Membership Manager

Summary

Candidate works closely with Development Director on all levels of fundraising for the International Spy Museum including donor identification, research, and cultivation. The position requires 5-10 years of Development experience in fundraising positions. The candidate will have led snail mail, email and fundraising event campaigns, experience with an endowment or naming campaign beneficial. The candidate will know how to relate to potential donors and work colleagues, have a good ear for listening and understanding the motivations of donors.  Event planning, fundraising software knowledge (Salesforce) and overall administration of all Development and Membership Department activities will be crucial in this unique role. Other tasks include proactively supporting all needs of development and membership as needed.  

Under general supervision, the DMD will assist with all functions related to meeting and exceeding the annual fundraising and membership goals.   

Essential Responsibilities 

  • Responsibility for obtaining/recruiting new corporate members and renewal of current corporate members
  • Maintain donor database (Salesforce), keep accurate donor information, always up to date
  • Track interactions with donors/members using Salesforce to produce membership and other reports on the interactions with members and prospects
  • Responsible for soliciting donors/sponsors for all SPY programs, cultivation events, and Annual Dinner.
  • Responsible for making sure all donor and membership benefits are executed
  • Prepare thank you notes to all donors within 24 hours of receiving donation with assistance from Development and Membership Coordinator
  • Online fundraising responsibility, creation and guidance over content-work closely with Communications team to ensure all fundraising activities are listed in email newsletters and correspondence.  
  • Follow up with prospective donors and set up meetings for Development Director to attend, 2-4 meetings per month.
  • Proactively participate in solicitation opportunities, such as networking events, SPY Education program events, and open house functions.  Some evenings and occasional weekend work is expected.

Other duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working with other departments on internal events, managing communication materials and emails to members, working with interns on various tasks.
  • Other tasks as needed, flexible attitude

Education, Experience and Skills

  • Four year college degree
  • Experience in membership related sales, fundraising and non-profits
  • Candidate must have strong computer skills to include fluency in Microsoft word, excel and PPT and CRM software experience
  • 5-10 years Development Department experience, hands on donor interactions
  • Fundraising at the $100-$100,000 level, retained and cultivated donors
  • Strong social media and communication skills
  • Email and snail mail campaign work a plus
  • Strong organizational skills, good time manager
  • Passion and dedication to position and ability to handle multiple assignments
