Accounting Manager

Summary
The International Spy Museum is currently seeking an Accounting Manager that will report directly to the Controller. The primary responsibility of the Accounting Manager is to supervise a team of three and provide oversight for the daily activities in the finance department, analyze, record, track, and audit financial information. This position is also responsible for creating and distributing monthly financial reports. The Accounting Manager also partners with the Human Resources Director to ensure that payroll and employee-related financial issues and benefits are managed seamlessly. The person serves as the point-of-contact for and assists in overseeing the timely completion of annual audit processes and tax reporting.

Responsibilities
- Managing and overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department including:
- Month and end-year process
- Accounts payable / receivable
- Cash receipts
- General ledger
- Payroll
- Revenue and expenditure variance analysis
- Capital assets reconciliations
- Check runs
- Fixed asset activity
- Inventory reconciliation
- Debt activity
- Monitoring and analyzing accounting data and prepare financial reports and statements.
- Oversee maintenance of accounting systems, reports, and charts of accounts.
- Coordinate and complete annual audits including financial and 401k.
- Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.
- Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions.
- Prepares and submits quarterly and annual census reporting.
- Prepare Audit Schedules.
- Overseas preparation of financial statements including preparing and posting period close journal entries.
- Prepare period close financial documents and reports. Complete accurate monthly financial information in a timely manner.
- Reconcile monthly bank accounts.
- Performs other duties as required to support the Accounting and Finance Department.
Education & Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- CPA (preferred) or CPA candidate.
- Minimum of six years of experience in a similar position or public accounting.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, perform several functions simultaneously and prioritize work.
- Track record of extraordinary accuracy and the ability to delegate while maintaining standards of precision.
- Must be flexible and work as a team-player within the department and interface positively with all internal and external clients.
- Well-developed team skills, unquestioned integrity, and the experience, confidence, and presence to effectively handle interpersonal relationships and sensitive financial issues.
- Proven working experience as Accounting Manager, Accounting Supervisor or Finance Manager in a non-profit environment.
Skills Preferred
- Great Plains and ADP (preferred), or experience with other accounting software.
- Advanced computer skills in MS Office (especially Excel), and databases.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with a keen ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Ability to adhere to and meet deadlines.
- High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
