Declassified: 50 Top Secret Documents That Changed History

Thursday, 20 November; 12 noon – 1 pm

State secrets, clandestine operations, covert warfare…it might seem unlikely, but even these can leave a paper trail. In Declassified, award-winning author Thomas B. Allen reveals the chilling stories behind 50 top-secret documents from the Elizabethan era to the current war on terror. Culled from archives around the world, most documents in this lively history were never meant to be seen by the public and, in many cases, were encrypted to further conceal and protect their sources and intentions. All were previously “classified” or have origins that are shrouded in mystery and deceit. Allen will share a few of his favorite highlights from these documents which include a cipher sent to the imprisoned Mary, Queen of Scots, a letter from Benedict Arnold, a note written by Aldrich Ames, and a Presidential Daily Brief from August of 2001.
