“The absolute essence of the intelligence profession."—former DCI Richard Helms
What happens at the pinnacle of the intelligence process? How does the President actually get his intelligence? Who prepares it and how? Join John Hedley as he demystifies the world’s most expensive and exclusive publication—the President’s Daily Brief (PDB). In his CIA career, Hedley has been directly involved in providing current intelligence for eight presidents. During the Reagan administration he headed the PDB operation and met one-on-one with top national security officers to review the PDB at the White House and elsewhere some 300 times. Despite the PDB’s reputation and importance, its reaching the President is not a “given.” What gets to the President and how has been negotiated with each occupant of the White House. The current practice began by accident and developed by fits and starts. What will the next President need or want? Hedley will draw upon his personal experience and historical perspective to speculate on the answer to this question and the future of the CIA’s most significant publication.
