Highlights
Economic Impact
The International Spy Museum has a substantial impact on the District’s economy. It will:
- Produce $2.0 million in direct net taxes annually;
- Result in a $19.6 million gain to the District after TIF repayment over a 20-year period;
- Generate a $7.5 million gain to the District after TIF repayment and alternative use comparison;
- Create 150 new jobs in operations plus additional construction and fabrication jobs.
Education and Community Outreach
Educational and cultural opportunities are an integral part of the Museum. The Museum:
- Offers comprehensive educational program guides for middle-, secondary-, and university-level as well as educator bibliographies for both the permanent and special exhibitions;
- Encourages every 5th Grade District student to visit the Museum through a special group admission program;
- Hosts lectures, films, book signings and workshops for students, adults, families, and KidSpy agents;
- Is a new downtown cultural asset within landmark buildings.
Tourism
The International Spy Museum has welcomed almost 4 million visitors to date and countless more have enjoyed the attendant Museum store, restaurant and Cafe. The Museum:
- Enhances and protects the downtown Historic District through the restoration of the significant block of 19th C. buildings;
- Draws District visitors and residents to a site in the nation’s capital that is already home to the FBI, CIA, NSA and international embassies;
- Attracts interest to the Pennsylvania Quarter’s emerging arts and entertainment district;
- Extends visitors’ lengths of stay in the District;
- Provides venue for evening events for downtown residents and visitors.
