The Controller directs the overall financial planning and execution of accounting practices including oversight of accounting, budget, audit and tax activities. He or she will oversee financial and accounting system policies, procedures, controls and standards. The position also manages timely financial and statistical reports for management and staff use; establishes specific financial performance goals through a coordinated budget process; contributes to business decisions in terms of profitability, cash flow management, financial growth, overall organization planning, policy development and implementation. The Controller also manages the work of the Accounting & HR Associate and interfaces with Human Resources Manager to ensure that payroll and employee-related financial issues and benefits are managed seamlessly. The Controller works with the IT department to ensure the back-end system and point of sale system are providing accurate reports.

Manage the overall transaction processing of the accounting department.
Manage the maintenance of accounting systems, reports, and charts of accounts. Maintain banking and other financial relationships.
Supervise the classification and reconciliation of funds received for business operations on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
Manage cash flow and weekly forecasts.
Review payroll transmittal.
Prepare Audit Schedules.
Manage the preparation of financial statements including preparing and posting period close journal entries.
Ensure period close financial documents and reports provide complete and accurate financial information in a timely manner.
Analyze period financial statements and performance measures and write narratives and analysis. Recommend appropriate courses of action needed to reach goals set by the budget based on results and/or projections of results.
Serve as primary contact with related entities including Management Company.
Prepare monthly report documentation and analysis.
Manage the budgeting process. Work with department heads to develop budget detail. Review budget and prepare variance explanations. Analyze budget for reasonableness based on projected tourism trends and local DC market conditions.
Interact with and mentor department heads regarding budgetary adherence and performance.
Ensure an appropriate level of internal controls to reduce risk and safeguard assets.
Determine professional and financial liability exposure related to taxing authorities, audits, federal and state income taxes (as necessary), professional registration and licensure, sales and use tax, property tax, and payroll taxes.
Act as liaison with outside CPA firm with emphasis on maintaining internal controls and consistent compliance with financial operational procedures as they relate to the integrity of the financial systems and reports.
Other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer and Management Company.
Provides support for COO, particularly in the area of required analytical reports.
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business
Minimum Experience Required
Great Plains and ADP experience preferred
Siriusware experience or other point of sale or back-end system experience a plus
Demonstrated ability to work independently, perform several functions simultaneously and to prioritize work
Track record of extraordinary accuracy and the ability to delegate while maintaining standards of precision
Must be flexible and work as a team-player within the department and interface positively with external contacts
Well-developed team skills, unquestioned integrity, and the experience, confidence and presence to effectively handle interpersonal relationships and sensitive financial issues
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Advanced Excel skills
